Our convenient facility is fully equipped to handle wounds, sprains, fractures and other common injuries affecting patients of all ages. All of our patients will be seen by a doctor to ensure the highest quality of care for their emergency, no matter how big or small it may be.
Our bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and other tissues within the body are highly susceptible to damage caused by trauma. Traumatic events may include a fall, automobile accident or sports injury, and often include a direct blow or twisting on a specific area of the body. These injuries often cause pain, swelling, inflammation and other serious symptoms that require immediate care.
At Torrance Urgent, we provide comprehensive trauma care for all types of falls, accidents or injuries. Our skilled doctors are experienced in everything from performing emergency surgeries to administering physical rehabilitation programs. We always have a doctor on staff and see emergency patients at all ours of the day.
Treatment for accidents or injuries can vary depending on the type, severity and location of the affected area, as well as the patient's overall health. Most treatment courses usually begin with conservative methods and only consider surgery as a last resort. Physical rehabilitation is often needed in order to restore movement and function to the affected area as it heals.
Sutures, or stitches, are small medical devices used to repair skin affected by a cut, wound or surgical incision. At Torrance Urgent Care, we apply sutures to wounds or severe cuts after thoroughly cleaning the area and removing any dirt or foreign objects. This helps to ensure safe and proper healing with minimal scarring. Sutures are usually covered with bandages as well to keep the area clean and dry during the first few days.
In most cases, sutures are kept in for about a week before they are removed by your doctor and the skin is treated with an ointment or cream. Dissolvable sutures may be used for certain injuries that do not need to be removed at all. It is important to protect the site from additional injury once sutures are removed. Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for the skin.
Lacerations or wounds are common injuries that often occur from the skin hitting an object, usually on the scalp, face, legs, arms, hands and feet, although this may occur anywhere on the body. Minor lacerations are often short and shallow, but may be bleeding and can always be at a risk for infection.
At Torrance Urgent Care, we provide complete laceration care to stop the bleeding and stabilize the patient if he or she is feeling faint. Laceration repair usually includes cleaning and preparing the wound, before closing it with stitches, staples or adhesive strips. Follow up care may be required to remove the closure material and monitor the healing process. Most minor lacerations heal successfully with no complications.
A fracture is a break or crack in a bone that occur when the bone cannot withstand outside forces, often as a result of trauma or disease. Fracture, break and crack all refer to the same thing. Fractures can range from a small crack in the bone to complete separation.
They are often caused by a fall, motor vehicle accident or sports injury. Normal activities can also cause fractures for people at a higher risk, including those with low bone density (osteoporosis), bone tumors, cancer or brittle bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta).
A bone fracture may cause pain, swelling and bruising in the affected area. Applying weight or pressure to the area can worsen these symptoms. They can be diagnosed through physical examination and an X-ray or CT scan.
At Torrance Urgent Care, we offer specialized knowledge and care for the treatment of fractures. Our doctors will treat your injury every step of the way until it is completely healed. Treatment for a bone fracture usually begins with immobilization of the affected area, which is often helpful in relieving pain. Additional treatment depends on the location and type of fracture, but may include conservative methods like ice, rest and anti-inflammatory medication, splints or braces, or surgery to re-align severe fractures.
